My ex-neighbour went to Stacey's once with a friend to look at a horse for sale. She took them for a huge ride on the farm , but my neighbour said it wasn't for the faint-hearted! Lots of fun though :)

The definition of my pure hell is being stuck in a bus with 30 tired toddlers and mums in Takapuna knowing that your farrier is waiting for you at home which is 40kms away and he is doing you a special favor and you have no way of contacting him. What was meant to be a relaxing morning seeing the show The Gruffalos with daycare turned into a nightmare when they announced halfway there they had booked the late show by mistake. Everyone else was "Oh thats cool and I went "your shitting me right?" which didnt go down well with the other mums. As we went to leave the show a dad was missing and turned up 10mins later with a latte and hot chocolate for his kids.I had steam coming out my ears. Lucky for me I got hold of my fab neighbour at the last minute and she held the horse but god I am now exhausted from stressing. Only other horsie people can understand this sort of farrier panic. I dont ever want to feck off my farrier. Rant over.

ROFLMAO - haha us earthy horse mums don't always go down with our, um, frank, language! LOL. And yes, definitely relate. I reckon we move heaven and earth more for our farriers than ANYONE!

I was embarrassed that I swore but it just came out. Probably only about five rows heard me.I had organised my day so well so that everything would fit in.Honestly I could of pummeled the dad to death when he turned up with his frecking coffee.

Oh god Indy I think I would have just about made myself sick panicking over that. I pathologically loath being late for anything anyway but the golden rule is never mess the farrier around isn't it. The coffee dad will never know how much of a near death experience he had ;-) Yeah for good neighbours though!

I would be in exactly the same state as you Indyblue! And my language would probably worse especially for the stupid late Dad. How fricking inconsiderate can some people be?! And after doing one similar bus trip with toddlers/pre-schoolers I swore never to do another so always made my own way in my car to avoid such delays & stress.

Been puttering about with ponies today. Went for a lovely bareback ride on Gladys, enjoying riding bareback, it seems to be doing good things for my wonky balance. Questions though - does it do awful things to your riding position? And I've heard it's good for building up horses' back muscles - yes or no?
Reply
  Nic   Auckland  3:08PM    10-Sep-10
Bareback is great for riders wonky muscles - thats why RDA is so good for people with uneven muscle development and muscle tone :) As long as the horse is even that is!

Is anyone towing with a lifted 4x4? Is it safe/sensible?
Reply
  Sharon   Raglan  2:32PM    10-Sep-10
Not entirely sure if it's the same but out ute had heavy duty overload springs fitted to in when we purchased it. Not long afterwards, we had to replace the back 2 tyres on the float. Had engineers looking at float as they thought we had bent an axle. Turned out that the float was not traveling quite level and had cut out the tyres really quickly. Floats need to be level.
Reply
  Nicole     3:05PM    10-Sep-10
When we looked at getting one that was lifted we were told it would be fine to tow with, but as Sharon said the float needs to be level, so you have to install a lowered bar or something that lowers the towball level to the standard height. Other than knowing you have to do that, have no clue about how it works! (Price, how safe, or if having an altered tow ball mounting affects towing capabilities!) :) :)

We're out the back of Acacia Bay near Whakaipo Bay - obviously 30km makes quite a difference to the weather (even when not in Auckland!). Yesterday hubby swore he saw blue sky around midday yet all I saw was torrential rain all day. I asked him if he hit his head on something and saw stars as well.

I've a biiiiig favour to ask of those of you who are reasonably local to Coatesville. Special Olympics is holding an equestrian competition day on Saturday 16 October at the old Fruitfields site and would very much appreciate the loan of some suitable ponies and hacks so that each rider could ideally have their own horse for the day. The person who now owns the place is lending some already, but doesn't have as many as would be ideal (there could well be 20+ riders there). The riders will have a range of abilities from (PC equivalent) non-cert to C+. As an example, at the last day in Kerikeri, Kate leant her HOY Show Hunter to one of the A riders who did a quite good Prix Caprilli (jump about 60cm) on it. If anyone is able to help, please email me and I'll be able to give you more information. TIA sue dot marett at gmail.com

I thought I replied to it Sabre (the clear emails to get to me eventually), but maybe I hit reply and it went back to the clear instead of to you - better send it again to the gmail to be on the safe side.
